Before Rent, there was tick, tick…BOOM!, the semi-autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony-winning composer whose writing defined a generation on Broadway. The show follows Jon, a struggling composer, as he navigates his impending 30th birthday and wrestles with whether to abandon his dreams for a safer path. Performed in a stripped-down concert format that puts the electrifying pop-rock score front and center, this compelling musical takes you on the playwright/composer's journey that led to a Broadway blockbuster.

*Department of Drama students may use their material from General Auditions. First-year performance students in the Department of Drama may not submit.*
We welcome you to audition for our productions. Auditions are open to all SU undergraduate students, no experience necessary!
AUDITIONS FOR
Black Box Players is seeking directors for projects in our Spring 2026 Season.
You may submit any play or musical for consideration, unless it has been produced by BBP, First Year Players or the Department of Drama since 2016. If you have written your own piece that you would like produced through BBP but would not like to direct the piece yourself. Please reach out to Grace Mineiro (egmineir@sy.edu).
